This level of excellence was not achieved overnight. Encouraged by American research on the use of seat belts, Takata began researching seat belt technologies in 1952. After eight years of investigation and development, Takata became the first safety company to supply seat belts as standard equipment to the Japan market in 1960. In the early 1970s, Takata worked with NHTSA to meet new high speed crash test requirements and supplied the first energy absorbing seat belt system to pass a 30 mph crash test.
